First boat ride and NICU 3K walk!

Over Memorial Day weekend, Joe, Nate, and I went up to our friend Jon and his family's cabin in Danbury WI.  It's only about an hour and a half drive which is a perfect amount to be in the car to feel far enough away but not too far that it's obnoxious!  Anyways, the cabin is beautiful, on the river, and so nicely built and cool inside but still feels quaint enough that it keeps that cabin feel.  It was nice and relaxing and Nate got to take his first boat ride of the year on the pontoon!

We were on the boat for about 5 hours and Nate took his nap out there too for about 2 and a half hours.  He was a bit of a drunken sailor though :)
Turns out the motor of the boat is as comforting as the running car!  I was suprised that Nate kept his life jacket on and didn't mind it at all.  I thought there would be some whining about it but not at all!  Bandit the dog did a good job of Nate protecting as well.
It was a blast and so relaxing so we hope to go back more this summer.  Maybe next time Joe will let mom have a good time with a few drinks at night though and he can get up with the 1 year old :)

I should have realized the other day when Nate was so quiet for 5 minutes he was doing something he shouldn't.  I looked back and saw this...

Kleenex is a blast to get in to, as well as pulling out his wipes one by one.  I think he may be part dog because this is what he did to his books the other day as well.
I think he's actually getting his molars.  The last week he's been waking up in the middle of the night just furious.  He's been chewing everything really hard in the back of his mouth and yanking on his blanket in his mouth, so I believe there are some big teeth popping through.  I can't stick my finger in there though because I will not come back with it!
We started last weekend what we hope to be a tradition for the fam to do the NICU 3K walk.  It's a walk to raise money for the Children's Hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Nate was in the Minneapolis neonatal part of the hospital so we thought we could do what we could to give back to all the other little babies there.

Nate had to make sure no damage was made to his stroller during his grueling 3K "push"

As is Nate's usual way, he no longer enjoys being held too often and prefers to walk and run on his own with no assistance.  Here is proof that Nate would prefer to be on the ground rather than taking a sweet shot with Aunt Trisha.

We brought a picture of Nate that we posted on their wall.  They wanted pictures of all of their NICU babies and they are making a quilt of them to hang on the wall in the neonatal area of the hospital.
Thankfully Nate was only in the NICU for 9 days and then moved to his regular hospital for the rest of his stay.  In the hall to the NICU though there were pictures of preemie babies from the hospital as 1, 2, and 3 pounders, and then what they look like today.  It was comfroting to see that every day we walked in there when Nate was so small, so hopefully this quilt will bring comfrot to other parents and families that will be in the unit.  It was a great day and a good reminder again to be grateful for what we have and where we are.  There were lots of babies/kids in wheelchairs, with oxygen, tubes, all sorts of stuff, and pictures on the quilts and on families tshirts of babies that have passed away, but it was a nice day to come together with a common bond so we hope to do it again and raise and donate even more next year!
